Q: Why does the heater only work for 5 seconds and then stop?
A:
If the heater ignites but shuts down completely after 5 seconds, the control module will have to be replaced. If it ignites and the flame goes out after 5 seconds, then repeats the ignition cycle, there are three possible causes:
- The polarity is reversed on the incoming power supply. All heaters require correct polarity, so make sure power and neutral wires are correct.
- The flame sensor is bad, or no flame is present at the sensor.
- No Earth ground is connected from the power supply.

Q: Do you need a vent pipe with QC Part #20500 propane Hired-Hand heater?
A:
This heater does not require a vent pipe. However, it does require a constant exchange of fresh air since it is a non-vented heater. If you are using this in an area that is not well ventilated in this manner, it is best to look at our Modine Heaters (QC Part #20855). Q: If this heater is mounted outside, would it work on a shop building?
A: In dealing with shops/garages we usually recommend an inside unit heater that then vents to the outside.
