This is a necessary product to go with the roll out nesting boxes. I think they are over priced.
First ones I bought were about 2" short in the back of the nest and I could hold an egg behind but after working with Kuhl they modified the design and the new models work great! Haven't got a broken egg yet but have only had in service about a week. I'm sure the ones from QC will be the newer type.
The is a 2' gap between the rear of the pad and the laying bottom back. Enough for an egg to hit the bottom and not roll out.
Also short in front box and have a casting tooth which they don't tell you to cut it off or what!
I hope they clear this up on the backorders because mine does not fit worth a crap!
These pads fit perfectly and are much better than the pads I had made. The chickens scratch but they stay put and the eggs are cleaner than before :)
