  • Working pressure should be reduced to 1 PSI or less

Instructions for Gravity Fed Systems:

  1. Drill holes in the bottom of the sealed bucket with an 11/32" drill bit (sold separately). [Drill a hole 9.3 mm or 11/32" or up to 3/8".] Three holes are suggested, spaced accordingly, for maximum efficiency.

    Great, at first...

Review by CJ on May 4, 2016

This is my third year using these with my broilers, installed in a 2in pvc pipe fed from a 5 gallon bucket. The first year I loved them. The next year, two or three leaked... so when I bought more gaskets, I bought two of each design. This year, four or five (out of ten) leak. I'm now done with the gasket type and will use the threaded fittings... I'd go with the stainless steel nipples, but the internals will fall out in anything over a 3/4in pipe! (I tested it myself)

If these are for a permanent installation, you might have better luck... my experience says the gaskets will leak over time... making a HORRIBLE MESS in my brooder. Think twice about these for broilers, as my chicks ran out of water yesterday, as all the water leaked out when they weren't drinking it!

    Great Product- Installation

Review by waltdawg on Dec 9, 2015

I installed 4 nipples on a 4 inch PVC schedule 40 pipe. I first tried the 11/32 drill bit (too small) then redrilled with the 3/8 drill bit (still very snug) so I used vice grips to firmly hold the chicken nipple as I rocked it 90 degrees left and 90 degrees right from center when the nipple was almost all the way in I made the final push rotating the nipple 360 degrees. All 4 nipples no leaks, young chickens drinking from them in 15 minutes!!! Great system... Great product!

    Works Great

Review by Chicken Man on Aug 29, 2015

These are good nipples that work great for chickens. Don't leak or anything. They are a little hard to push in but other than that are great. If you use a 5 gallon bucket make sure you put a lid or something over the top and clean it out every once in a while

    Took some modification

Review by Kate on Aug 4, 2015

The nipples are fine, but using the recommended 11/32 drill bit did not work out. The grommets were completely shredded when trying to install into 1/2-inch pvc. Ended up using a smaller bit and installing without the grommets at all. Working nicely.

    Buy extra grommets

Review by Alex on Jul 30, 2015

This is a really good product. We built a waterer from 3" PVC for ducks and geese.

They fit VERY TIGHT in the hole you drill and not all of the grommets make it, so buy extra grommets.

Review by gorhamg on Mar 18, 2015

I purchased both styles to test them. the screw in and push in. Both work well but the push in seemed to work better in a plastic coffee can. You do need to go get the correct size bits. most bit sets have 3/8 and 5/16 but 11/32 23/64 are what you need. I tried to use the wrong bit with a little Teflon tape. No go, it leaks. I purchased more to build the full up system.

Use of nipple bottle watering allows a sanitary water supply and more room for chicks in the brooder. I do not recommend the use of ACV in water dispensed through the nipples. This was my first online purchase from QC and had good results, service was prompt.

I have used these nipples for several years and they work great. The chickens natural curiosity brings them to the nipple and they immediately take to the new water system. THey will waste water and cause a mud hole if you don't install a drip cup under it. The chickens will keep the cups empty.

    Great Product!

Review by Andrea on Oct 27, 2014

We decided to build a watering system for our chickens out of PVC pipe and used these nipples. They're perfect and my chickens picked up on it right away. Now the water stays clean and fresh. They suggest a 11/32 drill bit size for the hole, but it was still a little snug to push the nipples in. So we used one drill bit size up from that and it worked great. I would definitely recommend these to anyone with poultry.

They worked great for my 5 gal waterer!

Review by Erika on Jul 31, 2014

I ordered screw in nipples from Amazon for my 5 gallon waterer. They leaked from the nipple itself, not the seal. I ordered these push in style nipples and they worked great! They can hold the pressure of a full bucket just fine and the chickens love them!

Been using the screw in kind for about 3 years now, came back to order more and saw the push in kind. I'll have to order a few of them too. Got a couple of large Maxwell House plastic coffee cans, will hold almost a gal of water, large lid, easy to fill. Drill 3 holes in the bottom and screw in the nipples, with a little Teflon tape, easy peasy. Day old chicks catch on right away, Wherever I hang the blue waterer, that's home to them.

There's no mess the water is clean and I don't have to be there every day. I hung the bucket just above their reach and placed a stone near so they all can reach the nipples for water. If you haven't try them,,, well you'll wonder what took you so long. C.S.

    Very pleased

Review by Bryant B on Feb 4, 2014

Used some cheaper threaded nipples first, did not know about these, and the threaded ones leaked not due to the threads but through the nipple itself. These have worked great, no leaking. Using them with 1.25" PVC pipe so inserting them by hand was impossible with a 11/32 hole. I was able to use 6 stacked 1" diameter washers w/ 0.25" hole to put over the nipple and used a vice to seat the nipple in the grommet and the PVC pipe which worked great.

Review by Mama of many Hens on Nov 24, 2013

Love, Love, Love these vertical water nipples for our Hens. I had been using a swimming pool and the Hens would mess the water. Not I have these attached to a clean 5 gallon bucket suspended for the Hens to drink. 5 gallon bucket allows me to put in a floating water heater. Hens seem very happy as they are drinking away. Would love to have some horizontal water nipples.

I think I'm going to love these?

Review by Lyn on Nov 13, 2013

I didn't buy the drill bit with the nipples so I don't know if it was the exact correct size but I did a test hole with a 3/8 inch bit as others suggested here and found it was way too big. I don't know if they have made the nipples smaller or what? I think we ended up using a 1/4" and reaming it out slightly larger so it fit snug. Others here suggested using Vaseline. DO NOT USE VASELINE. Corn oil would have been better. I had to clean out the vaseline as it gummed up the nipple and made them stick closed.
My hens are slowly learning to use it. They keep looking for their usual water source. I guess they will catch on eventually.
I plan to add a bucket heater and have high hopes for an easier winter.

    These are great

Review by Cosy hens on Oct 31, 2013

So it came with no instructions and I'd only ever seen them one from a distance so I had to Google how to put them on the bucket wich wasn't to hard to find. My chickens had never seen them before either, I shoved them under to show them how it worked. It's great I was having to fill the 5 gal waterer every morning because they splash and play in it and spill it. Now it's every few days and the bucket is much smaller so it's easier told carry full. I even got some for friends that have a hard time with the waters they had.

Great, poultry and small animal waters

Review by Dave on Oct 7, 2013

My Rabbits love these waters also. The water nipple is mounted on a two liter bottles in the lid, and the bottle is hung upside down in t my cage. I have a 1 inch hole in the bottles bottom where I can fill them up when they are hanging along the inside of the cage upside down. Works great and so much faster that fooling with all those rabbit bottles. If you have several cages they can be put on 1/4 inch tubing to each cage if you want with on nipple per cage. I like the two litter bottles myself. Cheap and easy to fill and replace as needed. Rabbits just lick the stainless pins and get the water quicker than the old rabbit water with the ball tube. Try it you will love it for small cage animals. No Messes. no leaking.

    Very easy to use!

Review by Country on Aug 1, 2013

These were very easy to use and I had no leaks in my waterer on my very first try! a hint to others using 5 gal buckets... keep an empty one that has the handle ring 2 inches from the top lip of the bucket to set your water bucket in for refilling. this lets you put pressure on the lid to seal it to keep crud out without getting dirt on the nipples or putting unnecessary pressure on them make sure you have at least a small vent hole in the lid. Hope this helps.

    love these!

Review by Kat on Jul 21, 2013

Love these waterers! Such a nice change from the traditional, messy watering cans. The nipple pieces are a little hard to push in but once in they work GREAT and don't leak! I was very satisfied with my order and will order from QC Supply again in the future!

A little tip- I use my empty vinegar jugs because they are free, but after about 6 weeks they get grungy and hard to clean so all I need to do is pull out the waterer nipples, drill holes in a new jug, put the (cleaned) nipples into a new jug and recycle the old one. To push the nipple pieces into the jug just soak the bottom of the jug in hot water for a minute or two, out a drop of dish soap on the black ring and it will push in easily. Then rinse to remove the soap. Easy and cheap!

    Good Service, Good Product

    Review by C L F on Jul 20, 2013

Only 4 stars because I've only had it for a week and can't say much. However, the installation was a breeze especially compared to the screw-in style I bought 2 years ago. For the push-in I drilled a 3/8" hole, pushed in the grommet, then wet the nipple and pushed it into the grommet. It's very snug so I used a pad in my hand to make it more comfortable. I put 3 in the bottom of a 5-gallon bucket, then drilled a tiny hole near the top. (Not in the lid because I want to keep debris out.) Love these waterers for my chickens!

Delivery was fast, and I got an answer to my e-mail, regarding the grommets, the day after I sent it. And the answer wasn't just a canned form letter; the person gave a very honest, thoughtful reply. Thank you!

These waterers are Fantastic! I was a bit concerned at first when I got them and realized they weren't self tapping. I'm now so thankful that they aren't as working with other systems that ARE self tapping have proven leaky. I haven't had one drop leak from these units. I use them to water all age birds with them from 4 days old to 4 years old. Goodbye to nasty watering systems or should I call them bird baths. I highly recommend these to anyone.

    Tremendous Time Saver

Review by cathyc on Jun 27, 2013

This is my second purchase of the push-in style poultry nipples and I'm about to order more. It took time to convince my husband that the poultry nipple waterers would work. I started by using one or two on quart jars in the bins we used as brooders. He was amazed at how quickly chicks adapted to this (and the bonus that I didn't have to clean mucky water jars any more!). So I put together several 5-gallon buckets with 4-5 nipples and hung them in a couple of our breeder pens. Same thing. I used up the first order of 50, ordered 100 more and going back for more again. There are other ways to use this product, but the 2 or 5 gallon bucket is a good way to start. Love them!!

Okay I only have 6 chickens and they are my 1st. This looks like the best watering system keeping the water clean. This look like a great product and they were easy to install it into a plastic container. I poked the shaft at the bottom and my chickens caught on very quickly. After the 1st one started drinking they all followed suit. Have not seen any leaking and is perfect for my chicken coop. Now I'm looking for other containers to install these into. They seem to be good quality, and they were delivered in a timely manner.

Review by liberMom on Jun 7, 2013

I really liked these nipples. They were easy to use and did not leak. I made sure my holes did not go in at an angle and then just cleaned the hole really well so that no plastic was left hanging and inserted the rubber piece and then the nipple. Very easy! I did use the 11/32 black oxide sp jobber bit from this site as well. I inserted them into a 3 gallon frosting bucket and into a small plastic container with a screw on lid. Brace the thin plastic on the inside with your free hand to get them in or the plastic just bends. Both worked great. I even had to remove a nipple and reuse it from a small plastic container that broke when I dropped it. My year old chickens and my chics learned to use it very quickly. Sparkling clean water this morning after a night in the coop. Not so with my old open waterer. So glad I got these nipples.

Review by Geoffrey on May 9, 2013

These are great for the birds, but I almost wish I had just bought the ready made bucket. I wanted six instead of four, so I got these and a lowe's bucket. They are HARD to install. And I am pretty strong. I have painful blisters on my fingers. Seriously. Definitely wet them before trying to push them through. Ow.

Review by Edgar on Apr 11, 2013

The nipples were shipped promptly, and QC threw in a pair of work gloves! WhoooHooooo! By reading reviews I educated myself on how to best install these things, as there are no printed instructions with the nipples. I did use a slightly larger drill bit for these push-in nipples. After I had filled up the waterer, I put a dab of peanut butter on the nipples and within 30 seconds my two genius hens figured out how to use them!

    High quality

Review by Todd on Apr 8, 2013

I just made a new chicken watering bucket with the push-in rubber grommet style nipples from QC. The nipples appear to be higher quality than ones previously purchased elsewhere. I started getting leak problems w/ my old ones - either from the nipples themselves or cracks forming in the bucket around the screw-in bases. I hope these high quality rubber-grommet push in style will solve both problems. They work great so far.

Review by Christine on Mar 21, 2013

I ordered these nipples and delivery was quick. I also ordered the drill bit they offer for sale for drilling the holes, and installation of the nipples in the bottom of my water bucket was a breeze! No leaks on the first try! I'm glad I read the other reviews and got some hints at mounting the nipples: Wetting the grommet before trying to insert it helps a lot (I used a tiny tad of coconut oil on a Q-tip, since I didn't have any glycerin as others had suggested to use.) And I used a pair of pliers to grip the nipple (on the plastic) and push it in, as I have arthritis in my thumbs and couldn't push the nipples in without a little help holding them tight and steady. Excellent product! Highly recommend these!

    Glycerin lubricant makes things easier!

Review by David H. on Feb 18, 2013

Stellar product! I made two hanging waterers from 5-gal buckets and I'm super impressed. Easy to make and no leaks whatsoever. Definitely suggest that you follow the drill bit recommendation 11/32" - no larger! - as you WILL get leaks! I used a generous amount of food-quality glycerin as a lubricant to first seat the grommets, and then to insert the nipples into the grommets. Use a firm and steady gloved hand while wiggling them slightly as you push to seat each nipple. Then wash the remaining glycerin away to ensure smooth flow of H2O. I can already see a reduction in clean-up work for my 12'x14' coop. Thanks QC Supply!

Review by David H. on Feb 16, 2013

It's really nice to find a product that arrives and functions as advertised - and that's certainly the case with these awesome poultry nipples! Although new to raising chickens, I knew it was critical to maintain a dry floor in my coop. And these nipples really delivered!!! I followed recommendations to first wet and then insert the grommet, followed by insertion of the nipple, and everyone of mine is water-tight! I'm stoked with the results, and here's a hint - I used food-grade glycerine to lubricate the parts as I built my hanging watering systems, and things went extremely smooth from start to finish! Thanks for the great product!!!

No leaks, high quality, works great

Review by CH on Feb 3, 2013

Just installed yesterday, but thus far I'm impressed. Zero leaks, and my year-old hens figured it out in no time flat. I installed 4 of these on the bottom of a 5-gal bucket and hung it inside our 10x14' pasture pen, replacing a more complex gravity-fed system (5-gal bucket connected to a large bell waterer by 1/4" tubing). That system has worked fine for the last few years but when it came time to replace the valve (again), I started looking for another option and discovered these. I firmly believe the simplest solution is usually the best, and in this case, it doesn't get much simpler. One word of caution: there are scads of similar items for sale by other large online retailers, but reading the reviews of those and looking closely at their pictures, I'm convinced they don't compare to these. Don't be tempted by copycats—these are the ones you want. Very well made.

    Found a winner

Review by newchickenman on Jan 6, 2013

Ordered 8 nipples because they were so cheap. Also ordered the drill bit to save a trip to the store. Installed in bottom of standard 5 gallon bucket. Drilling hole and inserting gasket was easy. Harder to actually install the nipple. Had to press VERY hard even with lubricant jelly. I'm a big guy who works with my hand so i don't know how someone with delicate hands would do this...suggest drilling hole a bit bigger? Next installed in bottom of typical milk jug...much easier. It seems the thinner the material, the easier it is to install. Both work and are watertight, and the milk jug is at an angle. Some reviews say need better instructions, but this could not be more self explanatory once you see the nipple and gasket. Five week old pullets took to them right away...I have 17 and they were all around it picking and jabbing at it...strange because a day later when I checked the water in the container had not gone down much...apparently they prefer to drink from their standard waterer. That's ok though because I'm sure they all know what it is, and will go to it if I pull out the other water out while observing to make sure. Definitely recommend more than 1 per 20 chickens...2 would probably suffice but I'm going with three both inside and out.

Review by Mrs Rox C on Oct 7, 2012

It took about 15 minutes to put together 2 nipple water buckets for the hens. The pullets took to it within a day (after removing their old source of water) and the older hens are took a little bit longer. No leaks. Used a 11/32 bit and a little vaseline to put the gasket in the hole. It would be nice for the manufacturer to add directions with the product. Luckily, we were able to find a photo and directions on the web from someones website. I put a hole in the top of the lid to eliminate the vacuum effect and during the cold winter months it will allow a bucket de-icer cord to fit into the bucket. Shipping was fast (2-3 days). Will tell my friends about the product. Thanks!

This is the best choice of the nipples

Review by foster farmer on Oct 1, 2012

I ordered thirty nipples. Ten of the push in 360 style, ten of the threaded 360 style, and ten of the non 360 threaded. The 11/32 drill bit was on back order. I should have waited because one of the nipples turned out to be on back order as well and I was forced to wait anyway. They all arrived early in September. I decided to make a waterer when one of the hatch lings was found floating in the water trough. I started with a five gallon bucket and the correct drill bit. I actually cut threads into the bucket with a threading tool. The threaded nipples would not stop leaking even with thread tape. This may have been good to help the flock find the water. They became used to using nipples with the drippy threaded nipples. When I replaced them with the push in versions, not a leak in over a week. I would suggest a slightly larger drill bit than 11/32. Today I made a bucket without threading the holes. One of the three holes split the bucket when I pushed in the nipple.

Review by Jenny on Sep 14, 2012

Love it. But make sure your container is not sealed! it will get suction in it, and not work. It worked for 2 days, and then stopped working. Interestingly, I had checked on them several times the first two days, but on day three I didn't check as carefully. My hens nearly died. So poke a hole in the top of your container!

Good, but.... my hens nearly died.

Review by Jenny on Sep 13, 2012

I used a gallon sized water bottle to make mine, and screwed the lid on tight. (I figured you would need to have it airtight just like when you use a hamster water bottle) For 2 days I checked that it was working properly. On day 3 I didn't check on them all day. In the evening I went over and one chicken desperately flew out of the coop when we opened it, found water in a bucket and started drinking it (thankfully it had rained and there was a bit of water) Then we figured out the problem. Since my waterer was sealed they hadn't gotten water ALL DAY. We live in Phoenix so it was a miracle it was cloudy yesterday..... MORAL: POKE A HOLE IN THE TOP OF YOUR WATERER!

It is easy to do, and the height can be changed as required.

    Happy Chickens

Review by BD on Aug 6, 2012

I had the same problem as many other chicken owners. Tired of changing the chickens water many times a day to keep my chickens with fresh water at all time. No matter what i did the water seem to always become dirty. Since I install these water nipples in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket my chickens always have clean fresh water. I hung one bucket in the chicken coop and one outside under their shade structure so they don't have to go far to get a drink. It is a over kill having two buckets but i really enjoy having my chickens and fresh eggs, so I like to try and keep my chickens happy as possible. I will definitely continue to use these. I have already recommended a few of my neighbors to start using these. Since i installed them i have not noticed any water leaks. Makes me very happy. I was unsure of installing them in the coop because they might have leaked, but they work great. I have looked at a lot of reviews from other manufactures and i am glad i that i choose to use this one. QC had delivered them as promised. I will be looking at ordering other items I need from QC supply. Thank you QC

Worked fine with a 3/8" bit, on a thin-walled plastic tub. No leaks. One of the chickens had it figured out within a minute and the others figured it out soon after. I'm going to try something fancier with a larger bucket and plastic tubing but for now, so far so good!

Works great and easy to install

Review by MountainMan on Jul 15, 2012

These are great, put the push in type in 5 gallon bucket, hung it up and my 5 week old chicks took about 3 minutes to start using. No leaks at all. I printed out the simple directions from the website (same page as the ordering information) and had no problem. Had already bought the 11/32nd drill bit. The push in nipples took a little effort but was easy to figure out, just used pliers to hold them and used for leverage. The screw in type was really simple. I will be ordering more and will use them for all my chickens in the future. Will try them out on my ducks when they arrive next week. Price is very reasonable compared to other sites I checked out. Thanks

    These are working out GREAT

Review by JV on Jun 28, 2012

We are newbies to raising egg laying chickens. We bought these to create a chicken waterer with a 5 gallon bucket. Installation was easy (directions available on website in product info/details). Our 5 wk old chicks were drinking from them the day after installation. We simply put the chickens beaks individually up to the nipples one at a time to show them how they worked. And they watch each other closely, so they would follow/copy each other. We've read reviews on other similar products and leaking was an issue. We have not seen any unprovoked leaking from these. Definitely a winning buy! We highly recommend them. Thank you QC Supply for a great product.

Good product, that's easy to install.

Review by Self Reliance Works on Jun 22, 2012

Before testing, I took one of the nipples apart to verify how it works - a ball bearing and circumferential seat design with a lever on the bottom that pushes the ball off its seat and a similar but heavier lever on the top that aids in sealing the ball bearing on the seat. As designed, the best installation is perfectly vertical. I made a test of these nipples using a 5-gallong bucket. I put two nipples near the edges and that caused them to slant just a bit, but they installed and worked very well. I used a 3/8 nut driver to push down on the moistened barb to get it to seat. There were a couple of drips overnight from one nipple, and none from the other. My chickens found them and started drinking from them within minutes. So far, no sign of any dripping from the nipples, so installation inside the coop will be just fine. My plans at to put these (or the screw type which I also purchased) on a header inside the coop to water the birds. I believe this to be the best solution to watering chickens and avoiding all of the problems associated with water dishes, bowls, troughs and such. My challenge will be to place heat tape near or against the nipples to keep them free flowing during the winter.

Installed mine in the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket that I hung high enough for the chickens to get underneath. They found them quickly and started drinking right away. I also put a livestock float valve in the top of the bucket hooked to a garden hose so they never run out of water. I trimmed the lid around the mounting brackets and hose so in case they perch on top the water stays clean.

Review by tsimitpo on Jun 8, 2012

So far I've only used these with gravity-fed systems, but they've worked great - even with icy, semi-frozen water. When I installed them in schedule 40 PVC pipe with the recommended 11/32 hole, the grommets all split. I contacted QC Supply and that same day they sent replacement grommets (thanks QC!). A 3/8 hole worked perfect in the schedule 40 pipe and nary a drip (at about 5 feet of gravity-fed head pressure) .

I used the 5/16 drill bit and it worked great. No leaks so far and my 8-week old chicks checked it out within seconds the jug was in their coop. Within three minutes, all four chicks were drinking from it. So glad I got these.

    The Best!

Review by Sue on May 24, 2012

I was about to give up on the poultry nipple waterer idea until I tried these from QC.

I first tried a screw-in type nipple from another manufacturer released an excessive amount of water when the hens pushed the nipples. They didn't leak from the base - just dropped too much water while they were being used. I had placed a 9" round pan under the bucket and was getting about 1/2" water in it about every 2-3 days use! (I had even used several different types of buckets to be sure the problem wasn't with the plastic weight.)

An "online friend" recommended the push-ins from QC so I decided to give them a try. These are GREAT! No leaking or excessive water drop during drinking - and dry enough that I don't even need to put a pan underneath. (FYI...using the SAME bucket and drilled holes I was using with screw-ins!)

I also purchased a supply of the replacement grommets. Since I'm a new user, I'm not sure how long they'll last before they need to be replaced.

    Wrong pipe

Review by Ben on May 4, 2012

I bought the push in nipples and found that to get best performance you need to buy the thin wall pvc. I purchased the thicker pvc with a higher psi rating. The bushings(grommet) tend to break in the thicker pipe. I also found that vaseline makes all the difference when pushing them into the pipe.

Review by chickenguy on Mar 11, 2012

17 day chicks took to the nipples in about a minute.(shiny and red helped) Nipples hung just above normal head level so they have to straighten up, but not stretch, to drink.

Used a plastic 64oz (ocean spray square ish) juice jug, hung from a cord, two nipples in the bottom, 11/32 holes. Easy to fill in place, just remove cap, keep cap very loose or make a small vent hole so water is not held back by suction after a few drinks.

I used a bit of vegetable oil to help push them into the grommet. It was a tight fit getting them into the 5 gallon bucket, I had to enlarge the drilled hole every so slightly. No leaks in either container. Fast shipping and great prices... very happy!

    Worth every penny

Review by Andy on Jul 4, 2011

This is my third order (100) of these little gems. I am converting all my pens. The bucket waterers only need cleaning once a month instead of multiple times a week. 4 week old chicks figure out how to use them in 5 minutes flat. I use 3/8 inch drill in flat bottom buckets without leaks. I'll use 11/32 drill for round pipe installation. These nipples are designed for around 11 inches of water column pressure so they will leak if you fill the bucket more than that or hook them into your household water system. Buy them and use them, you will be glad you did.

Review by OmaLinda on May 5, 2011

The QC salesman on the phone was very helpful in steering us to the right nipple for our needs. We used a 3/8" drill to put 1 hole in the bottom of each empty vinegar jug and hung the jug with a length of baling wire (doubled) through the handle of the jug. No leaks. The newborn chicks took to it better than the hens so far, but perhaps if we removed their regular waterer they would go looking for another source and try it. Our hens tend to drink out of the dog and cat water containers, and we can't very well remove those . . .

    Useful, but not very sturdy

Review by Manny on Apr 1, 2011

I'm going to have to reorder extra grommets. About one in each seven or eight of these broke as I forced in the pin on the drinkers. Emphasis: if you are 'driving' in and not 'pushing' in your drinkers, you may break a bunch of the rubber grommets and they'll leak. I only had spit to use as lube, so better lube may help this (silicone?).

I have since searched and seen advice to use a 3/8" bit instead of the recommended 11/32" bit, but have not tried this yet and it could cause leaking - I'll have to try it.

I made my own hanging nipple waterer for my chickens. I've used these with day-old chicks, cornish crosses, silkies, and various egg laying breeds. I have only had one chicken who "didn't get it" and I think he was mentally challenged anyway. I've been using them for a year now and they show no sign of wear. I will definitely continue to use these. Only thing I would suggest is that qcsupply carries replacement grommets.
