Very good rain gauge except you have to go outside to read the measurement.

    5 star all the way

I have had my first one for 20 years and it was better than expected !!! That's why I felt un-informed when it quit working and ordered a replacement

Accurate but fails in about 2 years

Review by on Sep 25, 2016

This is my 4th purchase of this monitor which works very well and is accurate but only last about 2 years. For the price it should last a lot longer.

    Perfect rain gauge

Review by on Aug 26, 2016

This is my second Torrent, the first having lasted 10 years. Easy to maintain -- just have to be sure to keep the funnel free of leaves, spider webs, and the like. Also have to take off the top periodically to remove spider webs.
Easy to read -- I track rainfall weekly and reset. Here in the Catskills of NY with heavy snow and frequent subzero temperatueres, I take it in during the winter.

This has been a great little rain gauge, the second one in about7 years. I'm not sure what the wireless means unless that it runs on a battery and does not need to be plugged in. To me, "wireless" means the data is transmitted from the unit to a receiving station without use of wires. Alas, it does not do this. I wish it did.

    Highly valued product

Review by on Dec 10, 2015

This is the second Torrent I have owned. I'm up here on the Columbia River (OR) 83 miles from Portland, Oregon. The gauge works great for me and has been with me for many years (7+). This one is on it's 2nd year so the first one lasted 5 years or so. Our area of OR is dry so it does not rain a lot here. But, comparing the readings to other known rain gauges in the area it's been a great, reliable little tool. When the readings go dim I just replace the batteries.

    Great little device

Review by on May 30, 2015

We've had ours out for probably eight years. About 4 years ago, we bought a replacement, so it would be ready when needed - it seemed to be a discontinued product, since no one had them in stock. The spare is still on the shelf and the original is going strong. Accuracy seems to be fine when compared with others in our area who participate in the rain logging program.

Excellent When Paired W/ Manual Gauge

Review by on Oct 8, 2014

    Ownership: 7 years.
    Location: Sonoran Desert- AZ
    Use: Part of Rainlog.org network

Considerably more accurate for very small rain events compared to the National Weather Service gauges. (0.001" vs. 0.04") These small events are quite common in the desert.

However, I have found it does under-report when there is very high rain rates. (my estimate is when the rate rate is greater than 1.5" PER HOUR. (not common, but has happened twice in 7+ years here)

This issue, plus it is difficult to determine when the battery is running down; leads me to recommend that you pair it with at least one manual gauge.

Placement: For many residential homeowners finding a location clear on all sides (at least 20' in every direction- 30' recommended)
is difficult. While the digital readout is still very readable after 7+ years in the strong AZ sun, rotating the gauge to face North will certainly help with the LED display numbers fading.

Prior to becoming a Rainlogger, I used this gauge to manage my irrigation schedule manually; (turned off automatic system) and have definitely saved on the water bill.

    Overall: highly recommend

Great for measuring small amounts of rain but .......

Review by on Aug 19, 2014

Every drop counts in the desert of Tucson and measuring to 3 decimal places is exactly what we need to measure the smallest shower. It's a great design and seems accurate. Only problem (as noted by some other reviewers) is the displays just do not last long enough for the price. In all cases the displays have failed to point where they just cannot be read, which makes them an expensive investment. Would love a redesign to make the display more rugged. That said we keep buying replacements (have purchased 6 or more Torrent Gauges over the years) as we have not sound a better rain gauge. We always keep 2 around to make sure we do not miss any rain as occasionally spider webs or dirt also causes one to not measure rain fall.

    Buy it!

Review by on Aug 16, 2014

An excellent and accurate instrument at modest cost. It's what I consider the premier rain gauge of its class. One can't go wrong buying it! It's my 2nd one. . .

    Absolutely Great

Review by on Jun 11, 2014

It's absolute great!!! It's the 2nd one I've owned. My first one was about 12 years old and very difficult to read as the digital readout face was worn away. I've had several different types of rain gauges over the past 20 years. Nothing can compare to the Torrent. It's accurate and easy to read.

    Good but will it last

Review by on Jun 11, 2014

This is the second one I've had. The first one worked great for a couple of years and I liked it very much. I had hoped to get more than 2 years out of it though. I'm hoping this one will last a little longer. A bigger display would be nice (for us older folks).

    Reliable, Accurate Gauge

Review by on Mar 20, 2014

I have used one of these for over 10 years. It has been quite reliable and accurate. I have a remote weather (RAWS) station nearby, and the rainfall is nearly identical to the data from that site. Here we get 100 inches of precipitation a year on average. I replace the batteries each year, clean out the interior each year, and keep the funnel and screen clear of any particles. I hope this recently purchased spare works as well as the one I am using now!

    Great product

Review by on Mar 10, 2014

I already have one of these and it works great. I wish it had a remote to read inside but the ones that have this option are just not as good a product. I ordered this one for my son after giving him another brand for Christmas that was just "cheap" and requested a refund and ordered the torrent.

    Very good product

Review by on Oct 27, 2013

This is the 3rd Torrent we've purchased. The first lasted several years and the second was damaged by a severe storm. My husband is very pleased with this gauge and is thankful that it is still available.

    My third one

Review by on Oct 12, 2013

My previous one was broken by a cat. I immediately ordered another. I have been using them for years. They are so easy to use and accurate. I can go away for two weeks and not be concerned that the rain gauge will overflow.

Pricey for only 2 years service

Review by on Sep 16, 2013

Mixed feelings. For the first couple of years, it was excellent. However it's now in its 4th year and is dying - inaccurate readings and difficult to reset. Pretty pricey for 2 years service.

Outstanding in the field of rain gauages

I have had a Torrent Rain Gauge for over 15 years, they are the best by far, they are always correct and battery life is exceptional.

    I'm a repeat buyer

Review by on Jul 29, 2013

My Torrent Rain Gauge was defective on arrival. The digital readout showed .047 inches & would not zero out with the reset button. I called the assist phone number provided & was instructed to return it to Peet Bros. in Florida. That costs me $12 on top of the $60 I had already paid. It hasn't been returned yet. These are great gauges, this is my third one. The first two did a great job but after 3 or 4 years the digital readout gets moisture inside & becomes unreadable.

    Mostly happy

Review by on Jul 27, 2013

We have been happy with Torrent, but disappointed it lasted only 2 years. When it 'died' we quickly ordered another, as it is FAR better than the accumulation-type rain gauges.

Questioning accuracy on the start if it's second year. Replaced battery and it is clean. Looking for another analog type to compare rainfall readings.

Great unit with no moving parts

Review by on May 24, 2013

I have had one of these before, and I love the way they work. Two notes though. I agree with the people above about the little plastic sheet that covers the display. They are not put on well. My last one did last a couple of years though. I am going to try to add some extra glue around this one to make it a little more water proof. Second, it is a little misleading to say that the unit is wireless. Most people think of wireless as something that has an inside remote (inside the house) read out. This one does not. You still have to go to the unit to get your measurements and hit the reset button. I love the fact that I does not use little buckets or other moving parts and the results seem to be very accurate.

    best there is

Review by on Jul 15, 2012

I was replacing my old Torrent as it finally gave out after 7 years. The new one is great too but the "stick on" piece to cover the reading area did not stick on and I had to finally glue it on. Otherwise love the rain gauge.

    Durability & Price Worthy

Review by on May 3, 2012

This is the second one for me and I think it is one of the best for the money & very durable, I won the first one at a Farm Oil promotion about 9 or10 years ago, so you can see the durability.

    As advertised but...

Review by on Jan 2, 2012

The gauge seems to wok fine. easy to install. difficult to read from over 5 feet for older eyes. Nothing in the information indicates that it is 2digits of inches and 3 digits of fractional inches. No one needs three places of fractional inches. A total of 3 digits shown but larger would make the product easier to understand. If I didn't have some idea of what the Caret might represent I would have been lost. Place a decimal place instead of a caret and reduce to 2 digits of whole inches and 1 digit of fractional inches. The picture on the web site was much clearer and understandable.

    The Best

Review by on Dec 17, 2011

This is my second Torrent Rain Gauge. It does an excellent job. I tried the other kind with plastic teeter totter inside and that was useless. I will stick with this most reliable gauge from now on.

    Great product

Review by on Aug 4, 2011

This is a replacement. Had one, lasted more than 10 years, loved it. This is a great rain gauge. Very accurate and easy to use. Only con is that we get spider webs inside that have to be removed from time to time. Worth the effort.

    Great so far

Review by on Apr 10, 2011

We have had just one rainfall since purchasing. The total was RIGHT ON with the goldie oldie non-digital gauge we've used for years. So far so good -- we are pleased. Our land is very windy and the Torrent is light. We surrounded it with decorative rocks and it worked great.

Torrent Rain Gauge Is The Answer

Review by on Jul 15, 2010

I specifically ordered this Torrent Wireless Rain Gauge to replace one that was damaged when a severe storm destroyed ours. I had an ordinary gauge, but it is not nearly as reliable, and I wanted exactly what I was used to. It is perfect Thanks - just in time for another heavy rain.
